The Hanson Foundation

Home About MBT The Hanson Foundation

Supporting our local communities is a core principle of MBT Bank and is one instilled in us by our founders, John K. and Luise V. Hanson. In keeping with their lifelong dedication to the communities and people they loved, John and Luise established and funded The Hanson Foundation in 1970 with a $1,000,000 gift. In 1998, they contributed another $1,000,000; and upon John K. Hanson’s death, the Foundation received a number of shares of Winnebago Industries, Inc stock - a company John & Luise spent their lives building.

John K. and Luise were committed to giving back to their community and to provide a means of enhancing the quality of life in North Central Iowa through activities involving youth, parks, recreation and programs affecting large groups of community members.

One of John & Luise’s larger grants from the Foundation was a life-long wish of theirs – to have a YMCA in Forest City. It took many attempts to receive approval for a YMCA to be built in a town the size of Forest City and was a huge accomplishment. John K. & Luise personally set up an Endowment Fund for the “Y”. As the popularity of the new YMCA increased and membership grew, additional space was needed and a building expansion was planned. The Foundation again committed to a “Matching Pledge” Campaign to help aid in the project's funding.

The Foundation is listed as one of the Top 25 Foundations in Iowa with total assets of approximately $60,500,000 (6-30-2014) and has given out more than $45,000,000 to numerous communities, touching the lives of thousands of individuals since its inception.

Luise and John K., through the Hanson Foundation, will forever be a part of the lives here in the North Central Iowa area, continuing to give back and still be a part of the community they so loved. John K. & Luise V. Hanson were also the founders of Winnebago Industries, Inc.
